Ilse: Zum neusten MQGS Thema, Kreise, gab es viele spontane Einfälle, die alle in meinem MQGS Design Buch festgehalten wurden, vielleicht einmal fuer ein spaeteres Projekte. Gewonnen hat und umgesetzt wurde aber eine Spielerei mit einem Stoff aus meinem Stash, den Smilies. Die Entwicklung des Quilts verlief überraschend, von planloser Anordnung und Verschiebung der Smilies, über PacMan Erinnerung, bis letztendlich zum endgültig Titel: Eine von Picasso inspirierte Frau. Seht ihr sie?

Ilse: July's MQGS theme "Circles" was a fun and fruitful theme. Many an idea floated through my head and was documented in my MQGS scrap book. But in the end I chose to work with a "smilies" fabric I had in my stash. The quilt took many turns during its creation, from playing with the individual circles and their orientation, having flashbacks of a past PacMan era, to the the final form with the title: Woman inspired by Picasso. Do you see her?

Vor ein paar Jahren stellte Timeless Treasures (amerikanischer Stoffproduzent) einen Quiltvorschlag ins Internet, der mit Kreisen und Vierecken Designakzente setzte. Und weil die schwarz/weiß/gelbe Stoffe mich so an NY City mit seinen Taxis erinnerte, ließ ich mich inspirieren, ein ähnliches zu nähen.

Inspired by a free pattern provided by Timeless Treasures (which is no longer on the Web), this quilt was sewn several years ago, and was my second quilt using circles as a design element. The black/white/yellow fabric reminds me of New York taxis.

Helga sagt: Die 3 kleinen Teile sind Versuche, Wattepads in einem kleinen Quilt zu verarbeiten. Es macht Spaß, ist aber eine Fitzelarbeit. Die Idee dazu stammt aus dem Buch von Cecile Trentini: Daily Beauty, Everyday Embellishments.

These three small pieces show Helga’s attempts to use cotton wool pads to embellish quilts (yes, really!). “It was fun, but very fiddly,” she says . The idea came from a book entitled “Daily Beauty, Everyday Embellishments” by Cecile Trentini.

 

 

 

  

Den großen gepatchten Kreis hat Helga vor langer Zeit in einem australischen Patchworkheft entdeckt. Er besteht aus 36 "Kuchenstückle", die 10 Grad Schablonen dafür musste sie selber herstellen - ist aber kein Problem, meint sie. Der kleine Kreis für die Mitte fehlt noch.

Helga came across the large circular quilt a long time ago in an Australian quilting magazine. It’s made up of 36 x 10° “cake slices”. Helga had to make the templates herself, but said it was easy. She has yet to add the small centre circle.

 

 

Dieser Quilt war mal ein Challenge der BFQ, die Kreise sind mit der Maschine appliziert.

Helga made this quilt some time ago as part of a challenge project at the Black Forest Quilt Guild. The circles are machine-appliquéd.

Die Idee für Connys (unfertiges) Teil kam vom Blog „Knotted Cotton“ (http://www.knottedcotton. com/2013/06/wip-wednesday.html). Genauso fasziniert von den „Adern“ in den Steinchen wie Bloggerin Catherine, hat Conny auch versucht, diese Muster in Stoff umzusetzen. Sie meint: „Leider wirkte es nicht als Kieselsteine, weil ich es durch die Kreisform nicht richtig schichten konnte.“

The idea for Conny’s (unfinished) quilt came from the blog “Knotted Cotton” (http://www.knotted cotton.com/2013/06/wip-wednesday.html). Equally fascinated by the “veins” in the pebbles as blogger Catherine, Conny tried to replicate the patterns in fabric. Her comment: “Unfortunately it doesn’t have the look of pebbles as the round shape made it hard to stack them on top of each other.”

Susy sagte, sie wollte dieses Mal bewusst einen ganz reduzierten Quilt mit viel Hintergrund haben, da ein Schwerpunkt das Quilten sein sollte, Ringe um den Stoffkreis, die auch über die graphischen Linien gehen, so dass am Ende der ganze Quilt mit Kreisen bedeckt ist.

Susy said she purposely wanted to make a ‘minimalistic’ quilt this time, with lots of background so as to put the focus on the circular quilting design. She chose to quilt over the design elements so that in the end the quilted circles would cover the entire quilt.

Ausgangspunkt für Katrins Quilt waren die Ruby Reds von Oakshott. "Sie haben einen tollen Schimmer und die Rottöne harmonieren so gut. Dazu kam ein dezent glänzender Stoff für den Hintergrund. Die Kreise im Zentrum setzen sich in der "Windmühlen-Anordnung" der rotbunten Streifen fort. Letztlich haben sich aber doch wieder rechteckige Quilt-as-you-go-Segmente durchgesetzt, die ich mit teilweise goldenen Biesen zusammengefügt habe".

Katrin decided she wanted to use her collection of Oakshott ruby reds for her quilt – “They have a lovely shimmer about them and the different tones of red harmonize so well”. For the background she found a matching fabric, also with a subtle shimmer. The color mix in the center circles carries over into the “windmill arrangement” of the strips. In the end Katrin decided to use the quilt-as-you-go method again, adding some gold highlights in the strips she used to join the sections.

Aby schickte uns aus Amerika dieses schöne Bild von ihrem Tic-Tac-Toe-Quilt zum Thema Kreise/Rundungen, einer Gemeinschaftsarbeit von ihr und ihrem Enkelsohn Kaleb. Aby hatte ihm gesagt, es sei wie ein Wettbewerb, aber halt ohne Preise! Er hat beim Designprozess mitgewirkt und freut sich schon auf die nächste Herausforderung. 

Aby sent this lovely photograph of the Tic-Tac-Toe quilt she made on the theme of circles/curves. She said it was fun to collaborate with her grandson Kaleb – she had told him it was a contest, but without any prizes! He was interested in the design process and is looking forward to participating in future “contests”.

Tina schrieb (aus Amerika), dass sie schon immer einen Quilt mit Kreisen nähen wollte. In ihrem Stoff-Fundus hatte sie zwei Layer Cakes in schwarz-weiss, die auf ihre Verwendung warteten. Die Hauptfarbe sollte grün sein. Die Kreise ‑ es sind auch Halb- und Viertelkreise dabei ‑ sind zum Teil mit der Maschine und zum Teil von Hand appliziert. Die Kreise sind tlw. mit Zackenlitze, andere wiederum mit kleineren aufapplizierten Kreisen verziert, und sie sind mit verschieden Mustern frei gequiltet. Den Rand mit dem „Klaviertasten“-Muster hat Tina genommen, um auf eine vorgebebene Größe zu kommen. Der Quilt ist ein Geschenk für Tinas Nichte in Freiburg/Deutschland.

I always wanted to make a circle quilt, and I found in my stash two layer cakes in black/white and white /black that I have been wanting to use. I chose green as the primary color to go with black and white. I wanted to do all kinds of circles, so some of these are appliqued by hand , some by machine . I also cut some of them in half or quartered them, and added rickrack and smaller circles on top of the bigger circles. I also added the piano key border to make the top a certain size. The circles are all quilted freehand and with different motifs. It will be a gift to my niece who lives in Freiburg.
